From the very beginning of Clue, the director was inspired by the original illustrations and design of the 1980’s Clue board game. Through my work at B-Hive Printing, we took this inspiration and early on in the rehearsal process, we had designated photo days to get pictures of every single cast member. After many trials, we were able to make “drawn” versions of each cast member that could be used on any promotional materials. A lot of my job with this show was to create cohesive forms of media that matched the initial inspiration given by the director.

“CLUE” PLAYING CARDS

As a gift to cast members and a party favor during our Game Night promotional event, I came up with the idea to re-make playing cards (similar to the original Hasbro game playing cards) with our cast photos. After we handed them out as party favors, there was a lot of people asking for us to sell them at the performances! Parents had the cast signing these cards and came up to the directors and myself thanking us for how special they were to have made.

HIGHLIGHTS

Instagram stories were used a lot to post in-the-moment information and to follow along with the “secret message” motif throughout the show.

The week of Opening Night, in addition to a TV appearance (video below) we were able to schedule a radio interview to air on a local radio station.

Leading up to tickets going on sale, we hosted a fundraiser Game Night with several versions of “Clue” available along with bingo, corn hole, scrabble, playing cards, and several other classic board games. Along with that, there were prizes to be given away throughout the night and guest appearances from the cast (in character) to spark interest in the show.

It was really important to the directors to feature more than one character in the image of the show, so we had 7 posters (6 of the Clue characters and the 7th being the various characters members from the play). To connect all of the posters together, I proposed the idea to have a giveaway for people that scanned a QR code all 7 posters — which people did! We rewarded those people that scanned all of the available QR codes half priced tickets to whatever performance they wanted to see.

TV APPEARANCE

As part of the PR strategy for "Clue”, I worked with producers at a local news station to be featured alongside a fellow casemate about our production.
